Important Factors to Consider:

Anchor Line ("Rode"):
The length and type of line are as important as anchor weight. A general rule is a scope of 7:1 (7 feet of line for every 1 foot of water depth) for optimal holding in wind. Using a section of chain (3-6 ft) before the rope also dramatically increases holding power.

When in doubt, choose the next heavier weight. An anchor that is slightly too heavy is always safer and more effective than one that is too light.

Setting Your Anchor:
